EMC : Help for Logging In

How to use the Create New Profile page.
In order to create a profile that allows you to access restricted areas of the EMC site, such as the Image Gallery, you must first obtain a permissions password through the EMC and type that password into the box above the ermine to the right of the New Profle form. Permissions are issued automatically to all UC faculty and graduate students and to other interested scholars/students if their work is considered by the EMC to fall within Fair Use guidelines. If you believe you qualify for a permission password, you may place a request for one by contacting the EMC site administrator (graduate fellow): click here.

Once you have obtained and typed in the EMC-issued password in the right-hand box, you may then fill in the form on the left and, for "Personal EMC Password," type in whatever password you wish to use to login to the site. This password should not be too obvious but should be one you are likely to remember. It will be the password that you always use in the future when you login to the site. You will no longer need the EMC-issued password.

How to log in after creating a profile.
After you have completed and sumbitted your New Profile form, you will then be asked to login to the site. You should here type in the username and personal EMC password which you gave yourself when you filled out the New Profile form. When you revisit the EMC site, you may more easily login from the Homepage by clicking on "Login" at the top left of the page.

Why can't I see any pictures in the Image Gallery?
If you do not fill out the "Create New Profile" form and supply an EMC-issued password in the right-hand box above the ermine, you will be blocked from accessing the Image Gallery. The gallery is password protected for copyright reasons. If you are a UC faculty member or graduate student, or if you think your work falls within the Fair Use copyright guidelines, you may request to be considered for an EMC-issued password so that you may successfully create your profile and access the gallery. To submit a request, click on the graduate fellow's name at the bottom of the page.

I'm an undergrad, and I can't do my homework...
UC undergraduates and other undergraduates who qualify for access to the EMC Image Gallery to do their coursework will be issued a password to type in the right-hand box above the ermine on the Create New Profile page. This EMC-issued password will allow an undergraduate successfully to complete the New Profile page and login to the site. It will give the undergraduate access to the gallery for one academic year. If you believe you qualify for such access, contact the graduate fellow.

Help, I think something's broken!
If you have any problems completing the New Profile form or logging on to the site, contact the graduate fellow.
If you have forgotten your password, contact the graduate fellow and s/he will delete your personal profile so that you can submit a new one.
For further site help, contact the graduate fellow.
